Where do physical therapists work?

Physical therapists play a very important part in the overall health care system and work very closely with clients to help them recover from injury. Because their scope of practice is so diverse, their work environment will depend a lot on what they choose to focus on. Lets look at some of the potential places that a physical therapist might work:

This is probably the most common - working alongside other health care professionals such massage therapists, chiropractors, occupational therapists, etc. where you will have your own client appointments set for you each day.

A hospital

Physical therapists are also found working in an hospital environment. This can be to support rehab facilities, or help patients recover from accidents or serious injury.

Sports teams

One of those people that rush on to the court or field when an athlete gets injured is a physical therapist. If you focus on sports injury you may be found working for sports teams - whether professional or amateur.

Teachers

It is certainly possible to get teaching jobs as a physical therapist. Whether in a college or university, many professors in the physical therapy faculties are actively working within their field.

Starting your own practice

This is becoming more and more common place with the downturn of the economy. With jobs being cut across every industry, people need to become more entrepreneurial to make a living and find stability in their lives. Starting your own practice can be a great way to build a successful physical therapy business.
